In 2013, Czech company Čezeta Motors s.r.o. was launched for the development of a luxury electric Čezeta scooter. The Type 506, was the vision of British expat Neil Eamonn Smith, who’s aim was to produce ‘the world’s most desirable scooter’. At that time, no electric vehicle technology existed in the Czech Republic, and consequently a 4 year development program began to create the first prototype. Retaining much of the retro designs of its 54 year old ‘Type 505′ predecessor, the  ‘Type 506‘ was launched in 2017 coinciding with a significant date; the 60th Anniversary of Čezeta.

CAI were approached by Cezeta to design and manufacture a pair of instruments for their first 2000 limited edition Type 506 electric scooter. This was an exciting project for Caerbont and our first in the electric vehicle market. We worked closely with Cezeta ensuring the styling of the gauges reflected the ‘modern yet retro’ feel to the scooter and also to ensure technical compatibility.

The 80mm 130 Km/h speedometer was designed retaining elements of the original Type 505 gauge such as the triangular chaplets and anti clockwise scale. It features a black dial with white print, a full vee chrome bezel, red pointer, white illumination and is housed in a plastic waterproofed case. The Cezeta trademark logo and SMITHS logo completes the design. A 0-80MPH variant of the speedometer was also designed and manufactured.

The 52mm stepper state of charge gauge completes the pairing and features the same black dial, white print, red pointer, full vee chrome bezel, coloured ‘low charge’ warning scale and battery charge warning light. The triangular styled chaplets and Cezeta logo is also present.

The project has been both exciting and challenging and has opened a new market for CAI in electric vehicle gauge design.
