CAI Gauging Performance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed
Classic and new gauges at the Goodwood Festival of Speed
The 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed (10-13 July) provides the perfect platform for Caerbont Automotive Instruments (CAI) to showcase the recent evolution of vehicle instrumentation. Alongside the extensive range of Smiths and British Jaeger gauges, CAI is focusing on the continued growth in the bespoke design of gauges for specialist electric and combustion engine cars and motorcycles.
Visitors to CAI’s stand 61 & 62 will also get the opportunity to see a stunning Devalliet two-seater roadster. With the vision of Hervé Valliet, Devalliet pays homage to the world of racing cars from the 50s and 60s, through the legendary circuits and drivers of the era with a contemporary and retro-inspired design.
These authentic roadsters, designed and manufactured in France, are lightweight, agile and closer to the road, offering an intense driving experience, full of sensations, with an intimate relationship with the asphalt, without sacrificing travel comfort.
At their manufacturing plant in South Wales, CAI continues to build and expand an extensive range of Smiths and British Jaeger gauges for classic cars and motorcycles. The list of classic cars featuring Smiths gauges is endless and includes marquee brands such as Jaguar, Aston Martin, and Land Rover as well as much-loved classic cars such as the MG, Triumph and Mini. Replacement gauges are designed and built using the original drawings, with adaptations to encompass modern technology where appropriate.
In recent years, CAI’s design team has worked on an increasing number of specialist projects, especially where the vehicle is hand-built and limited in production number. CAI gauges feature in many prestigious vehicles including cars from the Morgan Motor Company, Tuthill, and Singer Vehicle Design, and motorcycles from Langen Motorcycles.
The most significant evolution is a growth in designing contemporary styled gauges for electric cars, with the CAI design team working closely with engineers from RBW Electric Cars, Hedley Studios, and Everrati. Even with the move towards electrification, many motoring enthusiasts still want the car to have that authentic styling with classic gauges.
The growth in project design has resulted in an increasing number of automotive and motorcycle builders turning to CAI. With continued investment in both the manufacturing and design workforce, including a dynamic apprenticeship programme, CAI is able to provide exceptional technical support in converting a concept to reality, from the initial idea stages through to the final build. A classic example is the gold-plated tachometer designed and built for Singer Vehicle Design.
“The Goodwood Festival of Speed provides the perfect platform to meet existing and potential new customers, as well as motoring enthusiasts,” explained Gavin Roberts, CAI’s Managing Director. “Every year we leave the event with a list of new potential projects. Goodwood brings together the automotive community like no other event. We are excited to be back in 2025.”
