Devalliet are a French automobile manufacturer based in Tullins in France, specialising in building their own brand of racing car. The vision of their founder, Hervé Devllaliet, a businessman and former racing car driver who previously represented France on several occasions in European and world radio-controlled car championships. The brand has established itself with its ethos focused on contemporary retro-inspired roadsters, reminiscent of the racing cars of the 50s and 60s
Their first model, The Mugello was created in In 2019, and was designed, manufactured and assembled by hand in their workshop, located at the bottom of the French Vercors mountains – a highland whose winding roads facilitate the opportunity to test and develop their chassis in optimal driving conditions.
Each limited series edition, promises meticulous assembly and a high level of customization, whilst paying homage to the racing icons of the past.
The Mugello 2-seater roadster is a nod to the Italian Dolce Vita; a vehicle inspired by the sports cars of the 1950s. The classic architecture hosts a low-emission turbo engine, a manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive. Its lightweight, 680kg frame and rigorous chassis ensures speeds reaching up to 225 HP whilst prioritising driving experience and comfort. Body colour, upholstery, embroidery, and stitching can all be tailored to the customers request. Its exclusivity underlined by a numbered and signed plaque.
CAI were commissioned by Devalliet to design and manufacture a set of instruments for their earliest Mugello F375 (standard). The brief was to design a set of gauges that would complement the vehicles discerning yet sporty visage. The set comprised of an 8K Tachometer, 240KMH Speedometer, Water Coolant gauge, Fuel Level and Time Clock. Each instrument was designed with black dials, white print, white pointers and chrome bezels. Each gauge features the Devalliet Logo. The earlier instruments were designed and manufcatured to communicate conventionally with transducers providing signals relative to the instrument function, but subsequent sets evolved to CAN gauges capable of sending and receving instruction directly with the vehicle’s own communication system.
CAI have designed the instruments for the complete Devalliet range of roadsters, including their special edition 5-year commemorative Mugello Grand Prix (below).
This project demonstrates CAI’s ability to provide a complete customised design service, interpreting the customer’s desired aesthetics and functionality to produce a set of working gauges featuring modern CAN technologies tailored to each unique request. The specialized designs and programming expertise we are able to provide sets CAI at the forefront of modern instrument manufacture.
